Senator Meets With West Virginians United for Social and Economic Justice
CHARLESTON, W.VA. – Senator Jay Rockefeller praised a broad panel of West Virginia advocates for social and economic justice, thanking them for fighting with him for health care reform and labor rights, among other issues.
“I’m honored that West Virginians United for Social and Economic Justice invited me here today,” Rockefeller said. “We share a common goal of growing our economy responsibly, wisely and with an eye toward social justice. It’s so important that we look to the future of our state, and that’s what this panel is all about.”
Rockefeller joined a discussion at Charleston’s City Service Center about the need for a renewed emphasis on economic growth and prosperity, but not at the expense of fairness or civil justice. The topics of discussion include jobs, education, the deficit and budget, the future of energy and health care reform.
Representatives with the faith based community; West Virginia Nurses; West Virginia Association of Social Workers; Citizens Action Group; West Virginia AFL-CIO; West Virginians for Affordable Health Care; Center on Budget and Policy; and the West Virginia chapter of the American Federation of Teachers attended.
“West Virginians United for Social & Economic Justice would like to thank Senator Rockefeller for taking time from his busy schedule to hear our concerns today,” said Gary Zuckett, chair of West Virginians United. “West Virginians have a champion in the Senior Senator from West Virginia – whether its health care reform, tax reform, labor or social programs – Senator Rockefeller is a leader not only in West Virginia, but for
the nation.”
