WILMINGTON, Del. – U.S. Senator Chris Coons issued the following statement honoring America’s heroes in observance of Memorial Day.
“Memorial Day provides a somber opportunity to pause and honor our service members who have made the ultimate sacrifice. Their heroic work defending our freedoms will never be forgotten.
“We also remember the Delawareans and Americans still serving in harm’s way, and pray for their safe return. We are deeply grateful when our service members return home safely to their loved ones, as the 1049th Transportation Company did this month.
“Today, and every day, we thank our military members, past and present, for the sacrifices they have made to keep America safe.”
Senator Coons participated in the Newark Memorial Day Parade on Sunday, May 20.
In his first year as a United States Senator, Chris Coons worked hard and has earned a reputation as a principled, pragmatic legislator eager to find bipartisan solutions to the issues confronting Delaware and the nation. He has emerged as a strong voice for job creation and the innovation economy, responsible deficit reduction, progressive social justice, and forward-looking foreign policy.
