MONTICELLO, IND. - Conservative singer and entertainer Pat Boone hits the airwaves on Christian radio stations across Indiana on behalf of Sen. Dick Lugar's 2012 re-election.
A patriotic gospel singer and political commentator, Boone will also hit the campaign stump in person for Lugar this weekend.
Boone will be a special guest speaker at a Lugar luncheon-fundraiser on Saturday, from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at Brandywine Complex in Monticello. The event will be hosted by White County Prosecutor Bob Guy and former Monticello Mayor Jason Thompson.
Lugar Represents Conservative
Principles, Midwestern Values
"Here in Indiana, you Hoosiers have one of the most accomplished, effective and serious leaders of any state of the country. One who represents important tried and true conservative principles and your Midwestern values," Boone says of Lugar in the radio spot. "There are precious few truly great leaders left like your Senator Dick Lugar. Governor Daniels, I think, said it better than anybody, 'Indiana continues to be blessed by one of the greatest public servants in American history.' And I agree."
Lugar's Wisdom, Vitality, Service Still Needed
Boone concludes by asking listeners, "When did words like experience, wisdom, statesman, vitality, integrity and lifetime of service first become of less value to you? The answer is, they didn't. And neither did the man they describe, Senator Dick Lugar."
According to Billboard Magazine, Boone was the second most successful artist of his time, behind only Elvis Presley, but ahead of The Beach Boys. Boone still holds the Billboard record for spending 220 consecutive weeks on the charts. He has appeared in 12 Hollywood movies, recorded 38 Top 40 hits and sold more than 45 million albums. A prolific author, Boone's writings include a number one bestseller, "Twixt Twelve and Twenty," published by Prentice-Hall. Boone's talent as a singer, actor and author - combined with his old-fashioned values - has contributed to his lengthy and successful career.
